My name is Marlon Watson and I am honored to serve as President for the NCPTA. It is my goal and my pleasure to fulfill the mission and purpose of this longstanding organization. I am extremely excited to lead this professional association and work alongside each of you.
I am happily married of 18 years with 2 kids. My career in transportation began over a decade ago, as a Transportation Supervisor for Cumberland County Schools. In 2013, my role as a director began with Durham County Public Schools. A few years later, I was afforded an opportunity to also serve as the Director of Transportation with Union County Public Schools. I also had the pleasure of serving Guilford County Schools as the Executive Director of Transportation. Currently, I am employed with the wonderful school system of Johnston County Public Schools, where I also received my elementary and secondary education. I completed my undergraduate degree with the University of Alabama at Birmingham and acquired my graduate degree from Norwich University.
Growing up in a small rural town, my grandfather instilled a strong work ethic in me. As I watched him work from sun up to sun down in order to provide for his family I learned that working hard is important. My grandfather was a man that led by example. It is that work ethic along with my faith that has driven me to continue to advance my career and lead by example. Like many others, I am always willing to roll up my sleeves and do whatever is required to get the job done regardless of the time it takes to complete the task. Every day, it is our goal to ensure that all students and parents know that the school bus is in safe condition and that the staff is committed to the children’s safety and wellbeing.
As an organization made up of bus drivers, mechanics, technicians, office support staff, transportation supervisors and directors; my sights are set on this organization being the state and national leader for transportation excellence. As transportation leaders, the common goal is to enrich the lives of our most precious cargo by safely transporting every student that boards a North Carolina school bus.
